Term 3 Week 2
29th July 2024
Principal Report
Welcome Back
Welcome back everyone, to what will be another busy but fantastic Term 3. I trust everyone had a restful and safe holiday.
Public Education Week
Public Education Week is fast approaching (Week 3). The theme for Public Education Week 2024 is a time for all of us to feel “proud to belong”, sharing our pride in being part of NSW public education, and the achievements of our students and staff.
Public Education Week is when we celebrate and acknowledge all those who contribute to our children and young people’s educational journey. School staff, parents and carers, community leaders and P&C associations, all play an important role in our students’ education.
We hope that you can join us Thursday 8th August for our Open House Assembly, which will start at approximately 9:15am, followed by open classrooms. Our public speakers will be on display, our skipping squad will showcase its skills and there will also be some special awards and certificates presented to deserving students. Please note that open classrooms will happen following the assembly. I expect this to be at approximately 10:30am. If the assembly runs beyond that, we will adjust our recess time to have sufficient time in classrooms. I hope you can join us!
Upcoming P & C Meeting
Please join us for our next P & C meeting.
- When: Monday 5th August at 7 pm
- Where: Woonona Bulli RSL
This will be the last meeting prior to our 70th Anniversary Fete, which will be on the agenda.
70th Anniversary Fete Fundraiser
On Thursday 15th August we will be having a mufti-day fundraiser to support our upcoming Fete. Students are encouraged to wear their pyjamas to school. Rather than the usual gold coin donation, students are asked to bring in individually wrapped lollies which will be used as prizes during the Fete.
Green and Gold Day
RVPS will get into the Olympic spirit by dressing up in green and gold on Friday 2nd August. We are thrilled to cheer our former student, Flynn Ogilvie, on as he competes at the Paris Olympics for the Australian hockey team. No gold coin donation.
District Athletics
Best of luck to our students later this week as they participate in the District Athletics Carnival. A reminder to parents that it can get quite cold and windy at the venue and to ensure that the appropriate clothing is packed.
Child Protection Education
Each year, all students are involved in the mandatory subject of Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE).
Part of our school’s PDHPE program includes mandatory child protection education. Some of the content taught in child protection education deals with sensitive issues. The school will teach this content in an age-appropriate way.
For more information about child protection education, you may go to the Child Protection and Respectful Relationships Education section on the Department of Education’s PDHPE website.
If you would like more information, please contact your child’s teacher.

Roblox’s Paedophile Problem
Please note: the following is copied and pasted from an email I received this week from Kirra Pendergast and the team at Safe on Social - https://www.safeonsocial.com/about-us
The internet’s biggest recreation zone for kids is fighting to keep predators away, and it’s not always winning."
For the past five months, I’ve had the privilege of working with the incredible investigative journalist Olivia Carville from Bloomberg's Business Week.
Today, the story is out!
If you've joined my Roblox webinars or seen my team speak in schools, you know I’m dedicated to helping you protect your children while they play. At Safe on Social, we focus on empowering kids to spot risks early to help them stay safe online while enjoying the online world they love.
“Who’s ever been asked to be someone’s boyfriend or girlfriend on Roblox?” This time a dozen hands go up, and there’s lots of whispering. “Who’s been offered free Robux to do something inappropriate in the game?” Two hands rise slowly.
The session, captured in a video in May, is like many others conducted by Pendergast, founder and CEO of Safe on Social Media Pty Ltd., an organization with offices in four countries that advises schools and businesses about online safety.
“If I could wipe one app off the face of the Earth right now, it would be that one”
“I started asking more specific things, like ‘Who’s been offered free Robux to strip their avatar down to their undies?’ and heaps of kids put their hands up, giggling,” Pendergast says in an interview. Hundreds of kids have told her since the pandemic that they’ve been asked to shift messaging from Roblox to Snapchat or Discord, or have been dared to do what she calls “wildly inappropriate things,” such as sending naked photos in exchange for Robux."
