Term 2 Week 10

1st July 2024

Principal Report

Reports

I hope that all parents/guardians enjoyed receiving feedback via our written reports last week. Teachers will be busy meeting with parents/guardians this week. I encourage you to take the opportunity to request an interview with your child’s teacher if you have any questions or require additional information. If you were not able to book and still wish to do so, or if none of the times provided was suitable, please contact the teacher to arrange an alternate time.

I remind families that we are not able to provide student supervision during interviews. If you need to bring your child(ren) with you, please have them sit on the chairs provided in the hallway or bag room. Otherwise, if you would like your child to sit in on the interview or sit in the room, that is acceptable too.

Students are not to be wandering around the school or playing unsupervised.

Assembly

We will have our final assembly of Semester Two Thursday 4th July at 9:10. In this assembly, we will be handing out any gold and silver awards, awarding our Athletics Carnival ribbons, announcing the winners of the Public Speaking Competition and badging our Semester Two SRC members.

70th Anniversary

Save the date – Saturday 7th September – as we celebrate our 70th Anniversary. Wednesday this week, all students will take part in a 70th Anniversary photo.

Education Week

Education Week is fast approaching and our Open House has been set for Thursday 8th August. I invite you to our Open House Assembly which will start at approximately 9:15 am, followed by open classrooms. There will also be some special awards and certificates presented to deserving students. I hope you can join us!

Internet Safety

Children often use the internet on various devices outside school hours to pass time They may search for videos, interesting information, or use it to answer questions. It is important that they learn to question the value and accuracy of the content that they see online. Having open and honest communication with your child about what to do if they see something which upsets them is important. Accessing inappropriate material may be psychologically harmful to children and exposure may desensitise children to extreme material.

Here is what you can do to help protect your child:

  • Have open and honest conversations with your child about what to do if he or she sees something upsetting online. A list of support services can be found at thinkuknow.org.au.
  • Encourage your child to come to you or a trusted adult if he or she sees something uncomfortable online.
  • Know the source that your child is searching online.
  • Know the places your child may access the internet – at a friend’s house, at school, at the library.
  • Discuss appropriate safety rules about using the internet and technology. A Family Online Safety Contract is a good way to start discussions. (thinkuknow.org.au/parents-portal)
  • Talk to your child about the importance of understanding that not everything online is true.
  • Reinforce that illegal activities conducted online can be traced by Police and perpetrators may be held criminally responsible for their actions, including cyberbullying.
  • Where possible, supervise internet use.
  • Consider filtering software, parental controls and safe search words.

Enjoy the Break

It is hard to believe that we have reached the halfway point in the school year. I hope that all families have a fantastic break from school and that the children return to school relaxed and refreshed. Monday 22nd July is a School Development Day. Classes start on Tuesday 23rd July.

Canberra Excursion 2024 – PACER Acknowledgement

Our Year 5 and 6 students have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Uniform Shop Change

Flexischools is our preferred method for ordering uniforms. Orders placed through the app before 4:30pm Sunday, are packed on Monday morning and delivered to student's classrooms. The teachers hand the orders out to the students to take home.

The Uniform Shop will now be open on Monday morning by appointment only. Please contact the uniform shop via email rvpsuniformshop@gamil.com if you would like to purchase uniforms in person.
