Dear Students, Parents and Carers,
I am writing to provide important information and guidance regarding the use of e-bikes and other wheeled devices on and around our school campus.
Firstly, it is important to understand that the use of e-bikes by students is permitted, provided they meet the requirements set out by Transport for NSW. This includes ensuring the e-bike is a power-assisted pedal cycle or electrically power-assisted cycle, and not a petrol-powered bicycle, which are illegal to use on public roads and road-related areas in NSW.
However, I have been made aware of some concerning incidents where students have been riding e-bikes in an unsafe manner, such as doubling up on bikes without helmets. This is not only against the law, but also puts the safety of the rider and others at risk.
I would like to remind all students that the following rules and expectations must be followed when riding e-bikes or any other wheeled devices to and from school:
Additionally, I must reiterate that petrol-powered bicycles and e-scooters are not permitted on public roads or road-related areas, including our school grounds. If students are found to be using these devices, we will be required to inform them and their parents/carers that it is illegal, and deny the storage of these items on school property.
The safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority, and we appreciate your cooperation in ensuring everyone can travel to and from school safely. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
