Dear parents,

Further to receiving new information from the Sydney West Careers and Employment Expo, planned for Friday March 14, the decision has been made to reduce the scope of this excursion and not include the entirety of Year 11. This is due to the industries, training organisations and career pathways featuring at the expo not reflecting the expressed interests and aspirations for many Year 11 students attending DHSVAD. For example, few universities have confirmed they will have stalls at this event, and tertiary education is the most popular post-school destination for our graduating students.

This excursion is best suited to those who are considering vocational training, private colleges, apprenticeships or wish to learn more about large industries and employers. It will be an invaluable experience for some students, but it won't reflect the interests of others.

The excursion will still go ahead, and students and parents should review the exhibitor list before deciding whether attendance at the expo is worth missing a day of school for. We are going to re-send the excursion permission note and ask that you return it once you have had this discussion.

Careers Expo Exhibitor List

Year 11 classes will run as normal on March 14 for those students who choose not to attend the excursion. The school plans to organise another careers expo excursion, later in the year, which will cater to students seeking higher education upon the completion of Year 12.
