Dear SGPS Parents and Carers,
Before School Procedures
These procedures were in the Principal's section of the School Newsletter on the 19 February 2026. We are sending an additional reminder to Stages of learning so that parents are clear on routines, expectations and reasons.
- NEW procedure to maximise learning time. It is very important when the morning bell rings at 8:50, that our students can move to class as quickly and safely and with as few tears as possible. A morning music bell will ring 3 minutes prior to the morning school bell. This is the signal for students to walk to lines and for parents to say their goodbyes and exit the school gate. This will allow for teachers to walk their classes to their classrooms as soon the bell rings.
- No student is to play before 8.20am regardless of whether their parent is present because there is no teacher on duty.
- All students are to sit on the coloured seating outside the front office if they arrive before 8:20am because there is no teacher on duty yet and they are in line of site of front office staff for their safety. This does not include students attending OOSH or supervised programs e.g., dance and band practice.
- If parents remain on school grounds after 8:20am, either with their children or catching up with other parents, we remind you that our teachers on morning duty will be ensuring student safety by expecting them to be in bounds and playing sensibly because their safety is our priority.
- Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten) - New Hall COLA
- Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) - Blue COLA / Bottom Courtyard
- Stages 2 and 3 (Years 3-6) - At designated stairs or on Concourse, depending on where their classroom is located.
If your child is experiencing difficulty with separation please speak to your class teacher and we will work with you to ensure they feel safe and supported to line up with their class.
We look forward to your support with these matters as it assists to provide a safe environment for our students and preserves that Samuel Gilbert PS community feel.
