Dear Parents and Carers,

On Thursday 6 August 28 students will be attending the SW Orienteering carnival at Nurragingy Reserve in Doonside.

Mrs Khakh will be attending as the team manager.

Information about the day:

Please aim to arrive by 9:30am. Once schools arrive, there will be a brief demonstration where students will be shown how to navigate using the maps.

Format of Age Championships:

On the day students will proceed to the Start, where they will be given a map with their course pre-marked on it. Students will start at 1-minute intervals. They must then navigate to all their control locations in order, and to the Finish. Anticipated completion times range from 20-40 minutes.

Format of the schools relay:

Each school will group their students into teams of 3. They will be allocated 3 different courses of approx. 1km each and of easy navigation. There will be a mass start of first runners. When each runner finishes their course, they tip their next runner and so on until all the team has run. Age handicaps will apply.

What to bring: Food, water, wear sports uniform, sunscreen/hats, tarp/rug. Enclosed sport shoes are essential.

Teachers: Teachers and any parent volunteers that your school has organised will be asked to walk around the reserve to help with supervision

Also, the assembly point/start/finish area is near the main gate on Knox Road this year. Please ask your bus drivers/parents to drop students here.

We hope students competing have a fun day.

Ms C. Barclay
