                                                                        3-6 ATHLETICS CARNIVAL - PROGRAM


Carnival will commence at approx. 9:30am

Students running in the 800m are to arrive at 9:00am (parents/carers to drop them directly at St Luke's Oval)







  • All races will be considered as the final and places will be based on times.
  • Athletics carnivals are part of the school’s sports program and all students K-6 are expected to attend. All students will participate in all events.
  • Parents/spectators are not permitted inside the oval and must stay behind the fence for student and spectator safety.
  • At the end of the carnival, students may leave directly from St Luke’s with a parent or carer. Please see the class teacher to sign students out.

                                                                                                   

                                                                                                       CARNIVAL INFORMATION

  • The order of events may be altered at the Carnival Organiser’s discretion.
  • The age group of a competitor is the age they will turn in 2023 e.g., a competitor who is 8yr old on the day of the carnival but turns 9 on the 26th December 2023, must still run as a 9yr old.

Age groups for competitors are as follows:

8yr old             born in 2015

9yr old             born in 2014                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        0yr 10yr old           born in 2013

11yr old           born in 2012

12yr old           born in 2011

13yr old           born in 2010


A Junior is a child who turns 8, 9 or 10 in the current year. 

A Senior is a child who turns 11, 12 or 13 in the current year.

  • Competitors must report to the marshals immediately after the first call. After 2 calls the competitor may be eliminated.
  • No student will be permitted to run bare-footed.
  • If running spikes are worn, they are to be a maximum of 7mm.
  • In starting a race, the commands of the starter will be “On your marks…, set….,” and then the gun will be fired.
  • After completing a race competitors must stay in their lanes until places are allocated
  • District representatives in 100m & 200m will be determined by times.
  • Selection for the Zone Athletics Carnival is dependent on competitors meeting set qualifying standards.
  • Placing in a heat does not guarantee selection for the Zone Carnival.

9.30am - Buses Depart Mortlake 

9.50am - Arrive at St Luke’s Oval

10.00am – K-2 Age Races

10.30am – Sport rotations (2 x 15min including transition)

11.00am - Lunch

11.30am – Sport rotations (4 x 15min including transition)

12.30pm – Parents can sign students out / 2nd Lunch 

1.30pm – Buses depart for Mortlake
